Communications Division
The Communications Division is located at the Fire Training Center in
Pomona and provides coordination of police, fire, ambulance, paramedic and other emergency
radio communications for the County of Rockland.
Corrections Division
Article
20, Section 500 of the N.Y.S. Correction Law as it applies to the County
of Rockland requires the jail to be serviced and maintained by the
Office of the Sheriff. In addition, the jail must be maintained
and meet standards set forth by N.Y.S. Laws as well as standards and
laws set forth by the N.Y.S. Commission of Corrections, U.S. Statues and
the U.S. Constitution. The Rockland County Correctional Center
will accept all individuals legally remanded to the custody of the
Sheriff from all State and Federally constituted Courts and law
enforcement agencies at every level of government.

Police Academy
Funding for the Rockland County Police and Public Safety Academy
comes from the County of Rockland and the various municipalities that
comprise Rockland County who have police Departments, together with
other
municipalities outside of Rockland County and private companies that
utilize the services of the academy. The County of Rockland
contributes 50% of the cost of the operation of the Police Academy.
The moneys paid by the County are annually appropriated by the
Legislature and are specifically designated for the Police Academy as a
separate line item in the overall Sheriff’s Department budget. The
various municipalities within the County pay the remaining 50% of the
expenses. The share from the municipalities located within
Rockland County shall be based upon the ratio between the numbers of
police in its respective departments over the total number of police
officers in Rockland County.
Police Division
The Sheriff’s Patrol Unit functions as a police agency of Rockland
County government responsible for service and protection of County
properties, roads, thoroughfares, holdings and interests. The
division will assist any and all-outside agencies, resources permitting,
as requested by that agency. The division will handle any and all
complaints occurring in or on Rockland County properties.

The Rockland County Sheriff’s Patrol is the Police division of the Sheriff’s Department. The organization is partitioned into sub-units; each performing distinct law enforcement and public service functions. These units are staffed by certified academy trained police officers supported by a civilian staff of clerical and technical workers.

Traffic Safety Board
The Traffic Safety Board concentrates on the dissemination of
information in an effort to increase support for the use of safety
restraints by vehicle
occupants. Its mission is to promote and support the state's highway
safety program to provide for the safe transportation of people and
goods on New York's roadways.
The Rockland County Traffic Safety Board’s mission is to save lives,
prevent injuries, and reduce traffic-related health care and other
economic costs. The Traffic Safety Board develops,
promotes, and implements effective educational,
engineering, and enforcement programs directed toward ending preventable
tragedies and reducing safety-related economic costs associated with
vehicle use and highway travel. The prevalence and tragedy of motor
vehicle injuries provide NHTSA with the challenge and opportunity to
improve and increase crash and injury prevention measures. In the United
States, injury is the leading cause of traumatic death for all ages from
1 to 44, and motor vehicle injury is the number one cause of death from
injury (accounting for almost one-third of the deaths each year). Motor
vehicle injury is the leading cause of death for persons ages 6 through
27 and the leading cause of occupational injury deaths, as well as the
leading health care cost. Typically, persons injured in motor vehicle
crashes suffer multiple injuries and often must endure long
hospitalizations. Ten percent of crash victims with head injuries, for
example, will be in a hospital or rehabilitation center for up to one
year.
